Big Moe

Big Moe Baptiste

Big Moe Baptiste was raised among jazz musicians, and he dreamed of a grand career on the road playing his trumpet. In high school, he traveled with a group of young musicians. He became a groundskeeper in the Lower Ninth Ward, where he met his wife Sharon. From that time forward, Big Moe dedicated his efforts to his family and community, becoming a great Second Line bandleader, famous throughout New Orleans. After the hurricane, he stopped playing the trumpet. His daughter's memory left him suffering from depression, anxiety and alcoholism.
